Maintains Flexibility and Strengthens Growing Bodies
Children are born with an innate flexibility. Yoga practice helps to prolong this gift. Developing strength and flexibility allow for fewer and less-severe injuries. This can be especially beneficial for kids engaged in sports, playground activities, and games.
Calms the Nervous System
It’s incredibly easy for kids of today to become overstimulated. Yoga poses are all about moving with the breath and listening to your own body. Yoga and breathing exercises have a direct and measurable effect on the central nervous system leading to a sense of calmness and stillness.
Manages Stress and Anxiety
Whether it’s school or personal life, kids can get stressed and anxious. Yoga is a physical exercise that produces happy endorphins, while the breathing exercises slow the heart rate and promote relaxation. Yoga classes also teach non-judgmental and non-competitive environments. These are all tools that a child can carry into any difficult situation in life.
Enhances Body Awareness
Yoga poses vary from balancing, strengthening, twisting, back banding, and inverting. All of these poses have the ability to teach a child about their body.
Improves Concentration
With all the technology around kids and adults, attention spans are shortening. Yoga helps to train the mind as much as it does the body. Breathing exercises and simple meditation techniques teach the children how to slow down their thoughts and focus their minds.
